This article explains how to add and edit milestone texts in a custom HeiaHeia challenge.

How to edit milestone texts

You can start editing the challenge texts once your contact person has made the challenge visible in HeiaHeia.

  1. Open Admin tools

  2. Select Challenges

  3. Find the desired challenge and select Edit challenge

  4. Go to the section Milestones

  5. Add or edit the title

  6. Add or edit the text

  7. Finally, click Update challenge


Language versions (important)

The default language of the app is English, so:

  • Add the text always under the English language option (default)

  • You can also write the text under English in your native language (or another language)

  • If you create an English version, you can also add translations in other languages. You'll find the language selector on the top of the page.

👉 Do not leave the English field empty, otherwise the text may not appear in the app

Editing texts

The text is written on the web, but mainly read on mobile → keep the text short and easy to scan.

  • Use short paragraphs (less is more)

  • Avoid long blocks of text

You can format text using Markdown. This is how Markdown formatting appears in the app:

  • _important note_ → important note

  • **remember this** → remember this

Write the symbols directly around the text (e.g. _important note_, **remember this**)

Adding images

  • We recommend adding one image or video for each milestone

  • You can choose to add either one image and one video, or two image

  • Please note that the same image will be shown across all language versions


Adding videos

  • Upload the video first to YouTube or Vimeo

  • Add the video link at the end of the text

The video is embedded automatically and:

  • Appears at the top of the milestone text section

  • Can be played directly in the app

Please note:

  • YouTube Shorts videos are not supported

  • Make sure the video settings allow embedding

Q: Can I preview the content?

A: Changes are saved in the admin tools, where you can review and edit them later. Currently, content cannot be previewed on mobile.

Q: When do the texts become visible to participants?

A: The texts become visible when the defined main player (individual, team, or organization) reaches the specific milestone.

Q: Can I add both images and videos to the same milestone?

A: Yes, you can.

Q: Why is the text not visible in the app?

A: The most common reason is that the English text field is empty.
